If you are looking for a charismatic, slightly quirky, yet sumptuous place to stay, The Governor’s House delivers by the bucket load. This elegant, colonial style mansion has been recently renovated and no expense has been spared on the interiors, as well as ensuring the facilities are as expected for a 4 star hotel – flat screen TV’s, clean cut bathrooms, quality linens and some of the most comfortable mattresses in the city. The owner, a Belgian antiques collector, has filled the hotel with the most beautiful genuine antiques and although only a small hotel, each of the 4 floors offers a warren of spaces where you can enjoy the collection of artefacts.
The accommodation is quite varied and each of the 12 rooms at the residence is individually designed and decorated; some with balconies, some with Jacuzzis, yet all rooms are rather flamboyant and decked out with funky artwork and a real sense of boutique luxury. The hotel also has a very inviting pool in the garden, a restaurant and bar and excellent staff offering a 24 hour concierge service.
Located in the best residential area of the city, Boeung Keng Kang, and just a short drive from the main centre of the city, The Governor’s House offers a peaceful oasis for those looking to explore Phnom Penh in style. The owner also employs 3-4 local tuk-tuk drivers, and so for excursions to the key sights in the city you can take comfort in knowing that you won’t be bartering for a good price or getting ripped off during your stay.
